Self-Rating Depression Scale

What is depression?

Before you begin the following self-assessment questionnaire, we would like you to have a basic understanding of depression. Depression is a common mental health issue that affects millions of people worldwide. Its main characteristics include:

1.Persistent feelings of sadness or emptiness: feeling down, hopeless.

2.Loss of interest: losing interest in activities that were once enjoyable.

3.Decreased energy: feeling tired and lacking motivation.

4.Low self-esteem: feeling worthless or guilty.

5Changes in sleep and appetite: excessive sleep or insomnia, increased or decreased appetite.

  • Attention problems: difficulty concentrating or making decisions.

If you or someone you know is experiencing any of these symptoms, it is advised to seek professional help. A mental health professional can provide an appropriate assessment and treatment plan to help you through difficult times.

Depression Self-Assessment Result Interpretation

Thank you for completing the self-assessment questionnaire. Your score is a reflection of the symptoms and feelings you have experienced over the past two weeks. Below is a breakdown of how to interpret your score:

Scoring System:

1.Each question is worth 10 points.

2.A higher score indicates a lower level of depressive symptoms.

3.A lower score may suggest more pronounced depressive symptoms.

Result Interpretation:

81–100 (Low Depression Symptoms):

Your score indicates that you are experiencing relatively few depressive symptoms. You may still face challenges, but your emotional well-being seems to be in a stable state. However, it’s important to continue taking care of your mental health and seek support when necessary. Remember that everyone can have difficult moments, and seeking help is always okay.

61–80 (Mild Depression Symptoms):

Your score suggests that you may be dealing with some mild depressive symptoms, such as occasional sadness, low energy, or trouble concentrating. While this might not significantly impact your daily life, it's important to monitor how you're feeling. Practicing self-care and talking to a professional can be helpful in managing these symptoms before they become more intense.

41–60 (Moderate Depression Symptoms):

Your score indicates that you may be experiencing moderate depressive symptoms. These symptoms may be affecting your daily activities and emotional well-being. It’s strongly recommended that you reach out to a mental health professional for a more thorough evaluation and personalized support. Therapy or counseling could help you manage these symptoms and improve your quality of life.

21–40 (Severe Depression Symptoms):

A score in this range indicates that you may be struggling with more severe depressive symptoms. These symptoms may be having a significant impact on your life, relationships, and overall well-being. It's crucial to seek professional help as soon as possible. Depression is treatable, and reaching out to a therapist or counselor can provide the support you need.

0–20 (Very Severe Depression Symptoms):

Your score suggests that you may be experiencing very severe depressive symptoms. It’s important that you seek immediate professional assistance. Depression is a serious condition, and early intervention is key to effective treatment. If you are feeling unsafe or considering self-harm, please contact a crisis helpline or visit the nearest emergency room.

Important Reminder:

This self-assessment is a tool for reflection and not a substitute for professional diagnosis. If you have any concerns about your score or symptoms, we strongly recommend consulting a mental health professional for a thorough evaluation and tailored treatment plan.

You don't have to face this journey alone. Support is available, and seeking help is a courageous step towards recovery.
